Attr. a Rocco Marconi

Blessing Christ

Oil painting on canvas
cm. 48x40

Provenance: formerly in the Baruffi collection, Rovigo.

Letter from Rodolfo Pallucchini dated 20 November 1976 on headed paper of the management of Arte Veneta (art history magazine), confirming the attribution to Rocco Marconi suggesting a comparison with a work by the same author preserved in the church of San Giorgio in Riviera d'Adda. & Nbsp; & nbsp;

This elegant figure of Redeemer Blessing from the waist, still mindful of the Renaissance glories of Venetian painting, of which the Bellini quotation of the green velvet drape edged with gold is evident testimony, refers to the ways of Rocco Marconi. Although translated in a less noble key, our Christ is similar to that depicted in the painting of the same subject currently preserved at the Civic Museum of Parma. The same, recurrent virile physiognomy is also found in The Christ and the Adulteress , certain work by Marconi visible in the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice. < / o: p>
