The work presents an almost total adherence to the painting with the same subject by the painter Tissot preserved at the Musée d'Orsay. However, significant variations can be noted in some details, for example the curtain in the background, the profile of the chair on the right in the composition, or the cage in the upper right and the pile of books resting on the table in the background. These details and the free and expressive layout of the painting could qualify this painting as a preparatory sketch for the work preserved in the French museum. Certainly the support and the material can be ascribed to the period of the original work.
Details of the painting in the Musée d'Orsay: Portrait de Mademoiselle LL, 1864, cm. 123.5x99.
