U.S. shako Model 1812

US Armed Forces regulatory headdress, adopted around 1812 and inspired by the contemporary British infantry schako; the illustrated specimen comes from the Militia of Boston, State of Massachussets, as evidenced by the trophy painted on the large front, in jargon called "tombstone" (tombstone) by collectors from across the Atlantic: it is the American eagle surmounted by seven stars and postante on cartouche with legend "Boston Militia"; the headdress is made of thick leather with black painted sole, with a twisted wire wimple supported by golden metal buttons, inside alluding to blackened leather with raw canvas cap (the latter in our opinion recently reintegrated well done ); in excellent condition considering its age, with some signs of use and beautiful period patina. Very rare relic of the Anglo-American War fought between 1812 and 1815
